STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
food manufacturers falls within the jurisdiction of the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA), under the authority of the Food Safety and Modernization Act (FSMA). The FDA may contract a number of these inspections out to the State of Idaho. Currently, they are contracted with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. Legislation was passed in 2018 to transition this authority from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare to the Idaho State Department of Agriculture. This legislation would extend the timeframe for that transition to be completed by September 29, 2021.
